3rd century BC, most likely made in the years of Hieron II's reign at Syracuse (269-215 BC) and buried around 214-211 BC - Silver and silver-gilt (parcel-gilt): sheet silver worked in repousse and chasing, with mercury (fire) gilding applied selectively to raised ornament
